January 30, 2024

The recent registration of the “wistoria-anime” web domain undoubtedly hints that the manga “Wistoria: Wand and Sword” (“Tsue to Tsurugi no Wistoria“) could be turned into an anime, making it the second work by Fujino Ōmori to be adapted, following the light novel series “DanMachi” (“Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” – “Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka“).

Wistoria: Wand and Sword” is a Japanese manga written by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Toshi Aoi. The series began publication in Kodansha‘s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in December 2020. To date, several volumes of the manga have been released, with the ninth volume planned for release in February 2024. The series has been well-received, being nominated for the Seventh Next Manga Awards in 2021 in the print category. This manga is different from “DanMachi,” as “Wistoria: Wand and Sword” is a proper manga and not a light novel.

Regarding the professional history of Fujino Ōmori, many may already be familiar with most of his work, but just in case, here’s a brief reference:

  • DanMachiLight Novels – Began publication in 2013, and continue to be published to this day. They tell the story of Bell Cranel, a novice adventurer, who, along with the goddess Hestia, ventures into a world where gods live among humans.
  • DanMachiAnime Adaptation – Started in 2015, and enjoying widespread popularity, the animated series has had several seasons. It remains faithful to the light novels, and its positive reception has been noticeable internationally.
  • DanMachiManga – Another adaptation of the light novels, following the same narrative thread. A different visual experience for an audience that prefers the manga format, and equally popular as the aforementioned works.
  • Spin-offs and Related WorksFujino Ōmori has also written several derivative works and spin-offs based in the “DanMachi” universe. Among them, for example, “Sword Oratoria,” a spin-off focusing on Aiz Wallenstein, one of the most powerful adventurers in the series.

Synopsis of the Manga “Wistoria: Wand and Sword”

Wistoria: Wand and Sword” is a manga series set in a fantasy world where magic and swords play a crucial role. Armed only with his sword and determination, the protagonist faces various obstacles and antagonists, seeking to prove that even without magic, one can overcome extraordinary adversities.

Throughout the series, themes such as perseverance, the importance of promises, and the value of facing challenges despite evident disadvantages are explored. Through its narrative, “Wistoria: Wand and Sword” offers an adventure story with a focus on personal growth and overcoming limitations.

Regarding the anime adaptation, the news of the recent domain registration “wistoria-anime” suggests that we may soon be receiving some official confirmation, rather than mere speculation. Obviously, as there is no confirmation yet, we do not have approximate release dates, or mentions regarding the technical team, nor even if any of the names we know from “DanMachi” would be working on this new project. Obviously, we can only wait.

While we can’t do more, we can ask if you’re familiar with Fujino Ōmori‘s work: Are you a fan of “DanMachi“?
