On Tuesday, the official Twitter account for the anime adaptation of Chugong’s writing and DUBU’s (REDICE Studio) Solo Leveling manhwa unveiled a teaser promotional video and the first key visual. These promotional materials confirm that the anime will make its debut during the upcoming winter season.
The Main Staff:
A-1 Pictures has entrusted the directorial duties for the anime series adaptation of Chugong’s Solo Leveling manhwa to Shunsuke Nakashige (known for Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory). Head writer Noboru Kimura (famous for Gundam Build Divers and Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!) is also on board for the project. Tomoko Sudo (who has previously worked on Alice in Borderland and Fragtime) is the character designer, while Hiroyuki Sawano (renowned for his work on Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist, Kill la Kill, and Mobile Suit Gundam UC) is the music composer. The anime will be available for streaming outside of Asia on Crunchyroll.
Ten years ago, “the Gate” appeared and connected the real world with the realm of magic and monsters. To combat these vile beasts, ordinary people received superhuman powers and became known as “Hunters.” Twenty-year-old Sung Jin-Woo is one such Hunter, but he is known as the “World’s Weakest,” owing to his pathetic power compared to even a measly E-Rank. Still, he hunts monsters tirelessly in low-rank Gates to pay for his mother’s medical bills. However, this miserable lifestyle changes when Jin-Woo—believing himself to be the only one left to die in a mission gone terribly wrong—awakens in a hospital three days later to find a mysterious screen floating in front of him. This “Quest Log” demands that Jin-Woo completes an unrealistic and intense training program, or face an appropriate penalty. Initially reluctant to comply because of the quest’s rigor, Jin-Woo soon finds that it may just transform him into one of the world’s most fearsome Hunters
Initially released on Webtoon services in March 2018, the manhwa adaptation of Solo Leveling, with illustrations by DUBU, concluded in December 2021. Both the manhwa and original novel series are published in English by Yen Press.
The manhwa is published by Kadokawa in Japan under the title Ore Dake Level-Up na Ken (I’m the Only One Who Has Leveled Up), and the 11th volume is slated for release on March 23.
