This next episode is scheduled to air on May 3rd in Japan. Additionally, the video features the new closing theme, titled “Snow Noir,” performed by Sangatsu no Phantasia. This third season has been airing since April 5th and is confirmed to have a total of 13 episodes.

Tsutomu Satou and Kana Ishida started publishing the light novels in July 2011 through Dengeki Bunko of Kadokawa publishing, concluding in September 2021. Subsequently, the sequel titled “Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Magian Company” launched its first volume in October 2021 in the Japanese market. The work inspired an anime adaptation consisting of 26 episodes, produced by Madhouse studios under the direction of Manabu Ono, which premiered in April 2014. It was followed by a movie in June 2017, and a second season, now produced by 8-Bit studios, premiered in October 2020, featuring 13 episodes, followed by the special “Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Tsuioku-hen” in December 2021.

Synopsis

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei” (known as “The Irregular at Magic High School” in English) is set in a world where magic is not just a fairy tale legend but a viable technology since the early 21st century. The story follows siblings Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, who are students at the prestigious National Magic University Affiliated High School. Tatsuya, the older brother, is relegated to the “Weed” class due to his apparent inability to effectively use magic, while his younger sister, Miyuki, is considered a prodigy and placed among the “Blooms,” the school’s elite. Although Tatsuya is seen as irregular and unimpressive in standard magic tests, he possesses extraordinary technical skills, combat knowledge, and a powerful strategic mind.

Throughout the series, it is revealed that Tatsuya is actually a magical engineering experiment designed by his family, one of the most influential in the magic world. His true talent lies in his ability to decompose, reconstruct, and modify any type of magic, making him extremely valuable in combat and magic development scenarios. Besides his technical abilities, Tatsuya also possesses the unique skill to restore objects and living beings to their previous state, essentially reversing time on them. Throughout the series, Tatsuya and Miyuki face various challenges including political tensions between magic schools, threats from terrorist organizations, and international conflicts seeking to exploit magic for warfare.

The plot also delves deeply into the social and political structures formed around the use of magic. As the Shiba siblings navigate these turbulent waters, they also learn more about their dark family past and the role they are destined to play in the global power balance. With the arrival of the third season, viewers can expect further exploration of Tatsuya‘s development and expansion of his abilities, as well as the growing political tensions that threaten to destabilize the fragile balance between magic practitioners and the rest of the world. Relationships and loyalties will be tested, and long-held secrets may finally come to light, adding layers of intrigue and depth to the already complex narrative of “Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei“.
