The animated adaptation of Karuho Shiina‘s manga consisted, up until now, of two seasons produced by Production I.G., which aired on Japanese television in 2009 and 2011, with a total of 25 and 13 episodes respectively. Karuho Shiina‘s manga also received some live-action adaptations, the first being a feature film released in 2010, and the second, a series, in 2023. Both this latest adaptation, as well as the first two seasons of the anime, can be found and enjoyed on Netflix.

Karuho Shiina began publishing the original manga of “Kimi ni Todoke” in March 2006 in the pages of Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret magazine and concluded the work in November 2017 with a total of 30 compiled volumes. The work went on to inspire two spin-offs, a one-shot in collaboration with Kazune Kawahara and a light novel with a script by Kanae Shimokawa, completed with 16 volumes. The original work also gave rise to the parallel manga “Kimi ni Todoke Bangai-hen – Unmei no Hito,” written and illustrated by Shiina, with a total of three volumes.

Synopsis

Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You” follows the story of Sawako Kuronuma, a high school student who, due to her gloomy appearance and timid behavior, is misunderstood by her classmates. She is often compared to Sadako, the character from the horror film “The Ring,” making her the subject of rumors and avoidance by her classmates. Despite her intimidating appearance, Sawako is actually a sweet and kind girl who longs to make friends and be more sociable.

The plot takes a turn when Shouta Kazehaya, the most popular boy in the class, begins to interact with Sawako. Kazehaya is known for his friendly personality and his ability to get along with everyone. He genuinely takes an interest in Sawako and begins to help her open up to others, which slowly changes her classmates’ perception of her. As Sawako and Kazehaya spend more time together, she begins to develop feelings for him, but has doubts about whether her feelings are reciprocated.

Throughout the series, Sawako experiences significant personal growth, learning to communicate better and understand the emotions of others. Additionally, the relationships among the secondary characters are explored, as they face their own challenges and emotional dilemmas. The story explores themes such as friendship, love, acceptance, and the courage to change. “Kimi ni Todoke” is a touching story about overcoming misunderstandings and the importance of communication and empathy in human relationships.

I think I speak for many when I say that it is never enough when it comes to enjoying a well-told story, and this definitely seems to be the case for “Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You.” A continuation that I, personally, was already waiting for. What about you? Come on, leave your opinion in the comments! Because, you know, we will be reading! 😉
