A Bit of History

“Date a Live” is a series of light novels written by Kōshi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako. The anime adaptation began airing on 30 March 2013 and was initially produced by AIC PLUS+.

The anime’s storyline unfolds as, 30 years prior, a strange event known as a “Spatial Earthquake” destroyed the centre of Eurasia, killing over 150 million people. Over the following 5 years, smaller “spatial earthquakes” occurred worldwide, primarily in Japan, before a 25-year period of peace.

Shido Itsuka, seemingly a regular high school student, meets a girl at the city’s epicentre after a new spatial earthquake. His sister Kotori, captain of the ship “Fraxinus”, informs him that this girl is one of the “spirits” (beings from another dimension) who, when they arrive on Earth, cause an explosion, known as a “spatial earthquake”.

Shido is recruited by his sister, who works for the group Ratotskr, as they discover he seems to possess a mysterious ability to “seal” the spirits’ powers, preventing them from becoming a threat to humanity. However, there’s a catch – to seal a spirit’s powers, Shido must date her, make her fall in love with him, and the definitive way to seal their powers is through a romantic KISS.
